Ready, Set, Go: Socktober is Here

A School-wide Sock Competition to Help the Needy

The challenge is on! Westchester Elementary & Glennwood Elementary to help collect socks and toiletries for the needy. Let’s “sock ‘n’ roll”!!!!

The top grade at each school to raise the most number of socks will get extra recess. The top class at each school will get a magic dance party or special lunch with the man himself, Sockules!

Who: Glennwood & Westchester

What: Socktober! During the cold months, no single item is more requested by our needy citizens than socks. Specifically, women’s and children’s socks are needed, along with full-size toiletries, such as shampoo/conditioner, soap, deodorant, lotion, baby wipes, Q-tips, etc.

We will collect socks and toiletries Monday-Friday, Oct. 23-27, to donate them to a local women’s and children’s outreach program, International Women’s House. The final totals for Glennwood Elementary and Westchester Elemetary will be announced during Community Circle on Friday, Nov. 3.

Students will bring items to their classrooms. There will be bins in each class. Each class will have a totals sheet which they will keep track of daily.

Why? 3.5 million people experience homelessness every year. Average temperature in the winter is 30°F. Every sock will help someone in need for the winter!

How It Works

  1. Buy socks, women’s, children’s (school-socks and infant as well), and men’s. Leave in the original packaging (if possible) as this will make it easier for each class to total.
  2. Buy full-size toiletries (shampoo/conditioner, soap, deodorant, lotion, baby wipes, Q-tips, etc.)
  3. Bring into school anytime the week of Oct. 23-27
