Is your Kindergartener or first-grader a bit squirmy? Need a little Zen moment before entering the classroom? What about your second-grader and third-grader? Do they have extra wiggles some mornings? Well, then you are in luck.
Starting Thursday, Sept. 7, and continuing the first Thursday of each month, Kindergarteners and first-graders can practice a little yoga with CeeCee Weeks, a certified yoga teacher, in the Media Center from 7:30 to 7:50 a.m. The second-graders and third-graders will be practicing their Zumba with Cathy Lo Davis, a certified instructor, in the Auditorium.
Weeks is a certified yoga teacher and believes yoga is for everyone, especially kids. Kids yoga helps cultivate mindfulness, build compassion, and have fun while moving through different postures. Weeks is the director of children's programming and teaches Family Yoga at Solstice Yoga + Barre, and also works for local nonprofit organizations and with private clients. After working with kids for more than 12 years, Weeks is always ready to have fun and get creative with kids of all ages.
Davis has been a certified Zumba instructor for the past two years. Zumba is a fun fitness program that combines mostly Latin music with dance moves that helps with cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. Davis teaches classes at Decatur YMCA and LAFitness. She has taught Zumba to kids from preschool to high school. She is mom to Blue, Berkeley, Bear (in Ms. Rochelin's class) and Buzz.
Please note: At this time, Glennwood cannot mix the classes. Kindergarten and first grade must stay in Media Center with the second grade and third grade staying in the auditorium.
